Frequently asked questions

The questions we hear most often about hafilat recharge — top up bus card timing, supported categories, payment safety, and what to do when something goes wrong.

How do I top up a hafilat card on this site?

Open the Recharge page, choose your card category, type the 10-digit card number printed on the front of your hafilat card, and pick an amount between AED 5 and AED 500.

The last step is paying with a UAE-issued Visa or Mastercard. You can opt in for a receipt by email; the email field is otherwise optional.

How long does a top-up take to reach the card?

Most top-ups appear on the card balance within a few minutes. The card itself synchronises the next time it is tapped at a bus reader, so the new total is visible after one short bus journey or after a fresh tap at a station.

What payment methods are accepted?

Visa and Mastercard issued in the UAE. We do not process cash, cheque, or direct bank transfer on the site.

Are there any fees or minimum and maximum amounts?

A small handling contribution is added on top of the top-up amount and is shown plainly at the payment step, not hidden in fine print.

The supported top-up range is from AED 5 to AED 500 per single transaction. You can repeat a top-up if you need a higher balance overall.

What if my payment goes through but the card balance does not update?

Wait a few minutes and tap the card once at a bus reader. The balance becomes visible after that next tap.

If the balance is still off after that, write to care@topupbuscard.org with the last four digits of the card number and the approximate time of the top-up. Our care team will look it up and reply within one working day.

Is it safe to enter my payment card details here?

The site is served over HTTPS and uses 3-D Secure for card transactions. Payment data is handled through a PCI-compliant payment processor; the website itself does not see or store the full card number.

Can I get a refund for an incorrect top-up?

A refund can be considered if the top-up has not yet been loaded onto the hafilat card. Once the credit reaches a card balance, it stays on the card and is consumed by future fares, in line with the network's own policy.

Refund requests are handled through the Contact page or by writing to care@topupbuscard.org.

How do I contact support if something goes wrong?

Send a note through the Contact page, write to care@topupbuscard.org, or open the WhatsApp channel for short questions. Replies arrive within one working day in English or Arabic.

Which transit cards does this service support?

Hafilat bus cards in their four common categories — Standard (Silver), Personal, Senior, and Student. The service does not handle other transit cards.

Where can the hafilat card be used after a top-up?

On public bus routes across the Abu Dhabi Emirate — city services in Abu Dhabi and the wider network around Al Ain. A single card balance is valid on both.

Can I top up someone else's hafilat card from this site?

Yes. The top-up form needs the card number and an amount, not an account login. Many people top up a family member's card or a spare card kept for visitors.

Why do you ask for the cardholder name on Personal cards?

Personal cards are issued in a specific name and can be replaced if lost — the name is part of how the network identifies the holder. Standard, Senior and Student cards do not strictly need a name on the form.

Will I receive a receipt after the top-up?

Only if you add an email address on the form. We do not send a receipt by default. The email field is otherwise optional and is used only for the receipt itself.

Is this site affiliated with the operator of the hafilat network?

No. This is an independent online top-up service. We do not issue cards, register Personal accounts, or change a card's category — those tasks remain with the network's own counters.

What should I do if I cannot find the 10-digit card number?

The number is printed on the front of every hafilat card, in the lower portion of the face. If the print is worn, take a clear photo of both sides of the card and send it to care@topupbuscard.org; we may still be able to help, or we will point you to the right counter for a replacement.
